I’m still around, I promise! I haven’t been doing much crafting though because quite simply, my craft room here since isn’t quite right. I can’t pinpoint what doesn’t feel right about it, just that I don’t find it super conductive to actually working. I did finish off a skein of yarn the other day in a project I previously thought was completed, and I did cast on a new knitting project the night before last with some of my more precious yarn. I also finally sorted out a ton of beads and selected more to be culled from my collection, which were donated yesterday to thrift along with a few stacks of other items. I have more I would like to let go, I just have to decide what. Some of it is yarns I likely won’t use- those will probably get returned to Micheal’s for store credit when I go into town again.
I’ve also been adding some books to my shop. I don’t have room for physical copies and I would rather read digital ones, so I’m slowly putting my remaining books up for sale. Right now that’s trade paperbacks of comics. The comics don’t have a shipping fee- the price includes media mail shipping to CONUS. Actually all of my books I have listed have no shipping fees and prices are low to help them move quickly. If they don’t sell in a reasonable amount of time, they’ll be donated to thrift.
I’m hoping to get some new handmade items up in the shop soon. I’ve made a few items but haven’t gotten around to listing them yet so that’s next on my list. I can think of at least 2 new necklaces that need to go up that are a lot of fun!
PS – There’s an extra coupon you can use at checkout- just enter LSG into the coupon code box!
I discovered last night that my shipping module was no longer functioning, and some quick research showed me it probably had not worked correctly through a couple major updates of my shop software. Of course it would be infinitely helpful to receive occasional feedback when things aren’t working like they should, but that’s neither here nor there. The important thing is I found a new, even easier to configure shipping module and things are working again like they should.
Sadly, I checked the current rates for international shipping and have decided to suspend shipping outside of the USA. It’s just way too expensive for the value of the items I make.
I have a busy day tomorrow outside of the house, but I’m hoping to get a few new items added to the shop when I get home. Nothing big, but they are really fun items that I hope you will enjoy.
It’s been since November that I last posted and I’ve been trying for ages to make a new post but it keeps not happening. I’ve been getting past a yarncraft slump, where for months I didn’t want to do anything more than give some of my softer skeins an occasional squeeze. I’m past that now though, and have knitted a few things, and am currently working on the Good Vibes shawl from wonderful French designer. I’m almost done with the big main color section and I will start the first stripe tomorrow when my other yarn color arrives.
Speaking of yarn, I’m currently cold sheeping. I’m hoping to make it through the end of the year without falling off the wagon, but we’ll see. My big goal is to get down to only 38 miles of yarn in my stash- I had 52, I donated 4, and now I just want to use up another 10. There are a few exceptions of when I can buy yarn, though for the most part, no new yarn is kind of the rule.
- I can use gift cards to buy yarn.
- I can accept yarn from swaps or as gifts.
- I can buy additional yarn to finish a project I’ve started.
Its pretty simple, but if you buy yarn like I tend to, its not easy!
I rearranged my craft room yesterday, and picked out another 3 bags of stuff to donate. This included all the sewing patterns I previously had listed for sale, so those are gone now, and I have more room on my shelf. Of course that shelf is mostly filled with large skeins of yarn… LOL.
The website also underwent a physical change a few weeks ago, getting a complete makeover. I like to think it looks more modern and on trend with what’s good today… Of course the 3 dozen emails I get in spam every day offering their design services seem to think otherwise! Ha!
Guess what? You don’t have to fiddle with entering coupon codes any longer in my shop. When you check out, all coupons you’ve met the requirements for will be applied automatically! So that 18% off of everything coupon? Boom! Yours! No code required! You bought brick stitch earrings? There’s a little extra savings for that too! I’m not going to tell you what all the coupons are, but you could save big without even trying.
Why not click through to the shop and have a look around? I’ll be adding a few more items in the next few days as well.
The last week or so has been crazy busy here, not just with the website issues (I’m still working to restore images to the blog for the 2013 posts) but with creating all sorts of new items for the shop. A lot of the new arrivals are perfect for Halloween! Here’s just a few of them.
Over the last few weeks I’ve made some changes. If you’ve been to the site recently, you’ve likely seen the biggest ones right away. The most noticeable change is that I changed the way the website and shop look. I decided to go with an unmodified theme that was made especially to work with my shop software and the result is pretty good.
The second biggest thing that changed is I removed all of the graphic design portfolios from the site and am focusing purely on the shop aspect. I’ve also redone the menus to better focus on the shop and make it friendlier both on computers and on mobile devices. I haven’t been doing much graphic design and to be honest, the laptop I current have is awful and makes it nearly impossible. Less stuff = simpler to navigate.
The third thing, and this might interest you if you intend to place an order, is I got out my postal scale and I weighed almost every item in the shop and re-calculated shipping rates by the half ounce. What this means is you will get the absolute lowest possible shipping rate I can afford to give you. There is no way anyone can say my shipping rates are unfair! I hate paying too much for shipping, and I’m sure you do too.
The fourth thing is I’ve been adding new products like crazy! Your best bet is to pop by the site and see for yourself, but I’ll show you a few images from the new items here so email subscribers can get a quick peek.
There are several other new items, plus of course the other 200+ items that previously existed in the shop.
I’m planning to add more over the next week too, so pop in, have a look, and remember there is always a coupon code available. Right now and through the end of the year, that code is UKULELE for 20% off of everything. That includes sale items too!
I’ve also added a way to comment on and discuss items in my shop. You don’t have to log in or register to do it- just fill out a name, email address, and ask your question or leave a comment. Easy!
Shipping rates. I know this seems like a small thing, but really it isn’t. Right now until the end of the month, all fabric remnants, large scraps, and yardages are free to good home- just pay shipping, or if you live in Lancaster, CA, contact me to arrange a pick-up!
That led me to realize, because fabric can be heavy, that I needed to adjust something in my shop’s shipping settings. So, as of now, Domestic shipping (within the USA) will never exceed $25.00! But every single item in my shop, and it all ships for $25!
Any packages under 1 pound will ship out First Class unless its somehow cheaper to use Priority, and anything over 1 pound will go Priority. I want things to get to you as quickly as possible, while still being cost effective. I’ve also done some more research on shipping rates and adjusted mine accordingly- I think they are much closer to actual costs now, though there is a small surcharge of $0.50 to cover PayPal fees. Unfortunately I am not making enough sales to justify using another (not free) payment gateway so someone has to eat the fees.
And as always, if shipping ends up being grossly over charged, I will refund you the difference after its paid and sent off at the post office.
I’ve been working on adding new items to my shop that I’ve recently made or have decided not to keep. There’s more yarns in my shop now, one of which is temporarily free, and the rest of which are all on sale. I fear there is an excess of pinks but it wasn’t intentional. I’m planning on heading out to my craft room later and moving the for sale yarns into bins out of my way so I don’t have them taking up space in my stash of yarns I actually want to keep and use.
You can see all yarns I have for sale by clicking here.
I’ve also added some new bracelets to the shop in a variety of colors and styles. You can see all of my bracelets here. All of them pictured below are currently in my shop and all contain unique components and designs.
I still have some other fabrics to add to my shop, but I’m honestly tempted to just donate some of them to thrift. I feel like I am more interested in destashing unwanted stuff then waiting for a buyer and it would be the easiest and fastest way to go. I have some excess embroidery floss I might add to my shop as well. I don’t really need 10 skeins off the same colors.
I’ve been trying to dedicate an hour a day to crafting the last few days and I feel like I am making progress. It should be easy to do something I love but sometimes it feels like work, you know? Anyway, in the last few days, I’ve completed several new quilt squares towards my quilt I may or may not ever finish, made some bracelets, crocheted a scarf, and added a bunch of new items to my shop.
Not all of the items I added to the shop were created by me- there are two pairs of earrings that were created by another artist, and some yarn I won’t be using and would like to sell. I’m hoping to add more crafting supplies as time goes on and start to clear out my stash- as of right now I’ve got sewing patterns, some yarns, and some fabrics I’m not going to use any time soon. I figure if its been in my stash for years and its still untouched, I probably don’t need it.
So, click on through to my shop, look around, and find something that strikes your fancy! I’ve got a big variety of products to chose from!
I’ve got some cool stuff coming soon because I caved and ordered two things from Amazon this week. One is a photo light box, and I will be using it to retake all of my shop photos so there is a nice uniform look to all of my images. The second is a foam head to display my hats on for photos in my shop since I plan to make several beanies.
I’ll probably have to watch a few Youtube videos to get the idea of how to take nice photos, but it shouldn’t be too hard to do and it will make my shop look so much better. Of course adding all of those photos again and deleting the old ones is going to take ages, but I think it will be worth it.
I also finished up a new beanie for the shop today, which turned out really cute. I’ll be adding it after I get my new prop and set-up and start taking new photos. Its made for a girl, or a woman with a small head, and is dark grey with a hot pink fur trim. I kinda wish it would fit my big head, but I probably don’t need to keep all of my hats. I have that problem already with earrings I make- wanting to keep them all.
I did learn something in making it. Remember to count your stitches as you cast on when working with a fur yarn. It will be nearly impossible to count your stitches after you’ve cast them when they’re furry!
