Partial set of icons for Deb’s Losing It website’s blog categories and link categories. You can see the complete set (some re-use images) at the site. This is one of my problem drawings. I can identify an elephant, yes, but draw one? Ha! That’s funny! Like hilarious! I drew the first draft of this totally freehand, not using any references. This time though, I Googled an elephant photo that was in more or less the same pose and saw some serious errors in my first drawing. The neck was too long and the line of the back was totally off. I think I have that fixed, as well as the color being a bit more realistic now. I also made the eyes smaller, though eventually they will need redone completely. This is the first of my “$5.00 portraits”. Here’s how she described herself. “I am a 30 yr old white female I am about 5’4″ 160lbs I am a single parent so my bigest passion is my kids but I also enjoy photography. I will be starting college soon. I’m an animal lover, love to dance, go for walks, camping, long drives to nowhere etc.” I focused on the photography and outdoorsy aspects of it, and took a wild guess at what she might look like aside from height/weight/proportion. Yes, I couldn’t manage to pick a hair color. Be glad I didn’t go really crazy and make it pink and blue! hehe You want your picture drawn in return for a $5.00 PayPal donation? Make your donation, and after I receive it, I’ll email you for some information about you. Tell me a bit about yourself, and I’ll get to work. I’ll draw your portrait in Adobe Illustrator, using my best judgement and perception of you based on what you’ve told me. Assume I will put about an hour into your portrait, give or take 15 minutes. So, send me your donation, which is approximately 1% of my monthly living expenses, tell me the things you think are important about you, (name, age, gender, favorite hobbies/pastimes, race, height, weight, whatever you deem important) and I’ll create a masterpiece. Want to see an example? Look no further! Here’s one right now! This person described herself as “I am a 30 yr old white female I am about 5’4″ 160lbs I am a single parent so my bigest passion is my kids but I also enjoy photography. I will be starting college soon. I’m an animal lover, love to dance, go for walks, camping, long drives to nowhere etc.” I decided to focus on the photography and outdoors angle, since I’m not very good at drawing people. I know, and I’m offering to do portraits? Ha! And yes, I know that camera would not and could not produce Polaroids. But it was fun to draw them. Click to enlarge the image. This one still has a long way to go, but it’s rapidly getting better. I fixed the ears, lowering them to align with the nose like they actually do on someone’s face, and fixed the arms, adding hands as well. The eyes were replaced with better models, and I fixed the sleeves and the neckline of the uniform top. I also changed the font of the speech text, though I forgot to change the bottom text as well. The urge to add wild colored wall paper is strong- after all, we never see the actual bathrooms in the Enterprise at any time. Just that little sink. ![]() I redid this one completely, in case you didn't notice. I had to go out and find a photo of a firefly, and work form it, because I apparently can;t draw one on my own to save my life. The first version looked like glowing pencils, and the second version wasn't much better. This one though... it's much better. Still not perfect, but definitely a big improvement.
![]() This is going to be my last revision on this one. I re-drew the whisker dots on Pepe's face so they were less square, and I shifted one flower upwards to make room for my revised text. Its not going to be my best out of all of them, but overall I am pretty happy with it. I used an image as reference for the first draft, but drew him entirely freehand. No tracing.
I basically spent my entire fifteen minutes of time on this one trying to make the hands look sort of like… well, hands. Hands are supposed to be one of the hardest things to draw, and this is my sad little attempt after spending ten minutes staring at my fist held out in front of my screen, tracing the negative space around it with my eyes. I added some low-opacity shading between the knuckles and around the pits of the elbows, then encircled the whole thing in an oval, and changed up the fonts a bit. As I stated before, this is my only entry that I have done in Photoshop, and I am not very happy with it. I’m honestly considering redrawing the entire thing in Illustrator on the next go ’round. |
