By Debra Wilson, on April 13th, 2012 I know, I started this when, back in July of 2011 I think? If I had stuck with the original rules, I would have been done by August, easily. But instead I opted to work on them in ten minute batches, one day at a time, until I decided they were right. Obviously that could take months, right? I didn’t really think of that at the time.
Anyway, yesterday I started working on them again, breaking them down on the site into completed and not completed. A few of them that I had designated as unfinished actually seemed finished after not looking at them once for 6+ months. I’ve managed to finish a few of the others, make some changes to a few more, and there’s some I haven’t touched yet. But at this point about 50% are deemed finished.
Check them out. Suggestions are always welcome for those in progress- sometimes I get stuck and need an outside nudge to get going again.
By Debra Wilson, on April 13th, 2012 Taking a cue from the favorite candy drawing, I decided simplicity was best. I decided to go so simple as to make the model into a maniquin rather than attempt a full-fledged person in disguise. I do miss the mustache though.
By Debra Wilson, on April 13th, 2012 After taking a long break form this, I realized I was going about this one all wrong. Simple was indeed better, and I removed everything but the bare bones. I like it.

Collar piece made up of stars, butterflies, and girly-styled skulls.
By Debra Wilson, on January 4th, 2011 I got my order of 195 bicones today from Amazon.com. There are 13 colors, I think 15 of each color. A really pretty mix. There are two shades of pink, a purple, a red, two blues, a green, a turquoise, orange, clear, jet, a pinkish amber color, and something slightly yellow- its not quite cantelope. I’ll look up the color names later today to see what they are for sure.
Looking forward to getting my order form Fire Mountain tomorrow so I can get started on some stuff using these. I never did post what I ordered from FMG, did I? The stones I got were on sale for about a dollar a strand, so got a good deal there. I went with silver plated instead of actual SS for the res because quite simply, SS is expensive stuff.
What am I going to make first? I am going to do a bracelet or maybe a necklace using the chain and the stones and headpins to create a chunky piece. Planning on using the three colors of stones I have pictures above and maybe some other stuff I have on hand now. Then I am going to do another one using the Swarovski crystals providing I can do a good job on it.
By Debra Wilson, on July 19th, 2010 Our anniversary is coming up- get an identity package including logo, business card layout, letterhead, and a web page design for $250.00! This would normally cost at least $400 for this package.
Logo design will have three initial concepts, plus up to five revisions. Web page design will have one initial concept, and up to ten revisions. It does not include coding- design only. Please see the menu at the top of the page to see samples of my work and further details of how I do things around here. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to ask me. I will answer as quickly as possible.
This great deal will run until the end of this month.
By Debra Wilson, on June 29th, 2010 Not this week because I just bought a new dress for a weeding I am attending Saturday, but next week I plan to stop by Joann’s and pick up some fabric for this fantastic skirt project. I stumbled across it the other week, and the more I look at it, the more I want to go back and recreate it.
I won’t be using the rainbow color scheme, but am thinking starting black on the top, and working my way through the grey spectrum to end in a white layer on the bottom tier, and am thinking about edging it with a scalloped lace to finish it off.
The hard part will be finding enough different shades of grey to work my way through the spectrum, but the good thing will be I will only need a half a yard or so of each color. Hopefully I can find a good diversity of patterns to keep it interesting to the eye.
Not sure about the waistband yet, and what color I am going to do it- white would be a logical choice to balance the white bottom, but at the same time, I think it would also be a great time to add a color into it- maybe a black and red polka dotted fabric, or black and purple. Hard decisions abound!
I’ll be sure to take many photos of the progress once I get started and post them. Its been a while since I’ve had a fun sewing project to work on. Now if only I had a sewing machine here at the house.
By Debra Wilson, on June 4th, 2010 I opened up Inkscape and played around a little. The only tool I have the hang of yet is the pen tool- it works exactly the same as in Illustrator. The tool I used to do this doodle is the calligraphy one; I did these lines, then ten minutes later went to add to it, and I can;t seem to duplicate the same line density even though the settings are the same. I’m not sure if it was because my finger pressure was different or what, but I guess I’ll be needing lots of practice with this one.
I also noticed the only web-ready pixel based outputs are PNG or BMP. That’s a little disappointing, but it could be worse. And theoretically (I haven’t opened it yet so I don’t know anything) I can just open and convert it in Gimp to something else.
I’m definitely looking forward to learning these two programs though, and I’m thinking that my first project to practice with will be a tattoo design. I’ve decided I want to get a day of the dead style skull with all the colors and details on my upper left arm, as a 1/4 sleeve. I’m still trying to sort out the details, but I’ve got all the time in the world. I can’t do anything until after I pay off my boyfriend’s birthday present anyway. After that, I can start saving up for it.
That’s something to look forward to.
By Debra Wilson, on June 4th, 2010 Creative Nerds posted a great list of programs for the artist in you, included some I have been meaning to try for a long time. These include Gimp, and Inkscape. I’ve been wanting to find alternatives to the over-priced Adobe suite of programs, and from what I’d heard, these two may provide much of that answer. I’m looking forward to working with them.
