Times are tough right now. If you can't hire me, maybe you can buy me a sandwich instead?

This is one of my problem drawings. I can identify an elephant, yes, but draw one? Ha! That’s funny! Like hilarious! I drew the first draft of this totally freehand, not using any references. This time though, I Googled an elephant photo that was in more or less the same pose and saw some serious errors in my first drawing. The neck was too long and the line of the back was totally off. I think I have that fixed, as well as the color being a bit more realistic now. I also made the eyes smaller, though eventually they will need redone completely.

By Debra Wilson, on August 24th, 2011 I received my new laptop this afternoon and have everything transferred over and ready to go. Getting used to it, but should be back at work on the 30 Day Drawing Challenge soon. It has a 10-key, so the whole keyboard is smaller, which is causing a lot of typos. Give me a few days though and I’ll be used to it.
I’m also going to be delayed on working on my drawing because I’m going to be working on my inventory for the craft sale next month. I’m hoping to have at least 25 items besides jewelry by the date.
There also may be a death in the family soon. I was in the process of transferring my files to the new machine when the idiot puppy dropped an external hard drive onto the closed case of the old laptop, shattering half the screen. I was going to try to sell it, but now I’m trying to sell it for parts. Ugh. Not happy about that at all, but nothing I can do about it.
Anyway, if you’re interested in a Dell Inspiron 1545 that needs a new screen, check our my eBay auctions at the link in the navigation. At this point I’d be happy with $50.00. Thanks a lot, dog!
By Debra Wilson, on August 11th, 2011 I redid this one completely, in case you didn't notice. I had to go out and find a photo of a firefly, and work form it, because I apparently can;t draw one on my own to save my life. The first version looked like glowing pencils, and the second version wasn't much better. This one though... it's much better. Still not perfect, but definitely a big improvement.
By Debra Wilson, on August 11th, 2011 This is going to be my last revision on this one. I re-drew the whisker dots on Pepe's face so they were less square, and I shifted one flower upwards to make room for my revised text. Its not going to be my best out of all of them, but overall I am pretty happy with it. I used an image as reference for the first draft, but drew him entirely freehand. No tracing.

Lots of small changes here. I made the eyes of all three characters smaller, making them a bit more realistic. I also altered the shape of the cats’ heads, and adjusted their eats. Their noses were redrawn. Previous versions noted Alix’s arms seemed to vanish against the background, so I made them a bit darker in color. I also reduced the squareness of her shoulders to make her look more feminine, and made her hip area a little wider. Details were added to her pants. Typography was altered, and the eyes did receive some other small adjustments besides sizing. I also lightened the upper areas of the walls behind her.
By Debra Wilson, on August 6th, 2011 Please don't take this one too seriously. I literally just threw some shapes together and let them take the form they wanted. This was the result. Its a bit odd, but I like it.
By Debra Wilson, on July 16th, 2011 Another one I had planned on doing quite a bit more to, but after waiting a while, I feel its pretty much done. I could add a lot of tiny, fiddly details to this but I think that would prove to make it distracting.

Remember the original? I had stick donkeys in the pasture. Well, now I have real donkeys, thanks to borrowing some photos from Google and using them for guidance. I also tweaked the sky’s gradient a bit. That’s really the only changes I made to this one, as it took some time to draw the donkeys back in.
By Debra Wilson, on June 17th, 2011 You’ve come to this page to learn more about me and my work, or at least I hope that’s why you’re here!
I am a graphic artist, with a ridiculous love of zombies, science fiction, space westerns, sewing, puppies and kittens. I know HMTL, CSS, and enough about the WordPress engine to set you up right. I can do some theme customization, create an amazing logo from scratch, set up business cards, or that sales flyer you need for the weekend. I’ve designed a few tattoos. I’ve got a few more than that. I can also design a kick-ass website for you.
I live in Lancaster, CA, where I spend much of my free time stitching up things to sell in my Etsy.com shop, blogging about life in general, and watching way more bad science fiction and horror than can possible be good for me. I’m on an unending quest to find a truly frightening horror movie, but so far they just give me the giggles. I’ve also been known to take a few photos on occasion.
I have been working as a freelancer since 2002. I’ve worked doing vinyl sign cutting, creating screen printing designs, and embroidery designs. I prefer to work in Adobe Illustrator over Photoshop, as I enjoy the drawing aspect more then I enjoy the manipulative aspects of Photoshop, but can work easily in both. Unfortunately during my almost year long time spent at a franchise shop as a designer, I was unable to take samples of my work with me.
You’ve probably noticed that many of my logo designs have been for farms, ranches, and related businesses. That’s because growing up on a goat farm, many of my connections were with other farming people. Don’t let that fool you into thinking that’s all I can do- the possibilities are limitless and I am willing to take on a variety of projects.
When I begin work on a new project, I like to discuss what it is you (the client) is looking for first. Are there any styles you really like? Are there any you don’t? Can you show me three examples of existing designs that you enjoy? These things help me better understand exactly what you are looking for and help me to bring you better initial concepts to start off with- time is money, so let’s make the best use of it that we can. This is especially true for logo design as your logo is your calling card.
Kittyloaf is so named in memory of my cat Lucky. Though I only had him for about three years, he made a very lasting impression on me.
