SOPA/PIPA Blackout

As you can see today, when you came to this site, you had to go through a click-through. This is because this site, as well as my personal site, are showing a virtual blackout for today and the 24th as well in protest of SOPA/PIPA.

If these pass, the internet will never be the same again. Freedom of expression will be severely censored, and practically anything could get your site blacklisted and blocked.

You don’t know much about SOPA/PIPA? Check out this page on Wikipedia, this infographic and this PDF file to learn the basics of why and how this will destroy our internet. Not only will it destroy our freedom to be creative, it will destroy and prevent jobs from forming, damaging our already struggling economy even more.

Please contact your representatives and tell them not to vote to pass SOPA/PIPA! SOPA is shelved for now, but PIPA is still very much alive and threatening.

Link Buttons for Deb’s Losing It

On the Deb’s Losing It blog, the links page utilizes images for each link. To make the links look more organized and uniform, a series of simple buttons were created for each link category. They all feature the same border, and the same color and style of text, but the images and wording changes to match the category. You can see the images in action here.

Christmas Stocking

One of my favorite parts of Christmas (and I’m not big on the holiday altogether) is the stockings stuffed with little random gifts. They are always the most fun, and often the most remembered. The first Christmas we were together we didn’t have stockings, and the second Christmas, my BFF, The Connoisseur, gave me a bitchin’ giraffe faux fur stocking which I adore. But Sweetums had no stocking, so this year I had to remedy that.

I set out scouring Etsy.com and finally found a scrap of navy blue and black faux fur that I loved. But I still didn’t have the fabric for the stocking itself. Finally, I found this cool dragon fabric which screams “boy”. I had the listing altered to be for 1/2 a yard instead of a 1/4, paid up and was thrilled at how well they went together when both both arrived over the next few days.

Anyway, long story short, I quilted some batting onto the dragon fabric, then laid the two piece together, busted out a magic marker, and traced out my giraffe stocking on it with about 3/4th of an inch room around it. I cut the two pieces out, stitched them together, and that was the easy part. Then I cut (had to re-cut once) the faux fur ruff and stitched it on with the hanging loop, also made out of the stocking fabric. Sewed it all of inside out. Spent 1/2 hour picking out the seam which was a bitch because the stitches really sunk into the batting. Finally realized duh! Right side + wrong side together for this, not rights + right, and got it finished correctly.

I think it turned out great! And its the perfect size for all the little stocking stuffers I got him!

The only hard part once I sorted out my errors was getting my machine through a layer of batting, cotton fabrics, and the fuax fur which has like a 3/4? pile to it. I reallly had to help it along and it was very slow going. But considering how much I’ve used this machine for in the last year+, and this has been the only real rough spot- I LOVE my Janome!

A Change of Plans

I decided at the last minute not to do the AVC craft fair. In short, it was a personal decision based on how difficult it was to find out any information at all about the fair, how to pay fees, deadlines, et cetera. I the person in charge had been more willing to give straight answers, I may have found a way to sign up and do it.

Hopefully in the next few weeks I’ll be adding my things I do have finished to this site or to my etsy shop (I’m not sure yet) in time for Christmas shopping.

Finally Home

After much consideration, Kittyloaf Designs has moved to its own hosting. I’ve moved all of the important images with the site, but some of the photos from the blog are missing and I probably will not be replacing them. Its just too much work on a very minor part of the site.

That said, I think everything of importance is how it should be. If you find something missing in another section, please let me know!

AVC Craft Fair

I have quite a bit left over from the last craft fair, plus a handful of new items I beaded up over the last few weeks. Since Sheree and I will be sharing a booth, my space will be pretty limited, so I’m going to change a few things around from last time.

Things to DO:

Smaller price tags, and no extra information on them. Just the numbers.
Bringing in some higher-dollar items such as my Swarovski crystal stuff and my brick-stitch earrings.
I may try to do a few more purses for this time. I did sell one and a lot of people looked at them. Depends on what I decide to do about my smaller pieces of fabric I have all over the dining room.
Lots of bracelets. Those were my biggest sellers.

Things NOT too do:

Not so many hot pads. They didn’t sell at all, so will probably just pick ten or fifteen and that’s it. I’ll try to pair them up in matching twos and sell them as pairs. Will offer a discount to hopefully move them out.
No plastic bag caddies. No one even knew what they were- everyone thought they were water bottle holders.
No bow-ties. Nobody really “got” those either. Most people thought they were for dogs, not people.
No doggie coats. I sold one, but overall people were not impressed by them.
No baby hats. The only people who even looked at my hats were older ladies who wants hats with big brims.

I would like to be able to do some tote bags, as a lot of people asked about those, but I need to move what I have and stop buying fabric for a while. I don’t have anywhere to put any more stuff.

I think that about sums up what the changes will be. Now I’m off to make a layout sheet for my price tags so I can print them the next time I go to Mom’s on some cardstock.
