This one has also been problematic. I just don’t know what to do with it, though now it does seem to be making some positive progress towards something… I’m just not sure what. It is making me crave buttercreme frosting!

This is one of my problem drawings. I can identify an elephant, yes, but draw one? Ha! That’s funny! Like hilarious! I drew the first draft of this totally freehand, not using any references. This time though, I Googled an elephant photo that was in more or less the same pose and saw some serious errors in my first drawing. The neck was too long and the line of the back was totally off. I think I have that fixed, as well as the color being a bit more realistic now. I also made the eyes smaller, though eventually they will need redone completely. This is another one I really didn’t like. It was supposed to be a doodle (Whoops! Forgot to add the text back on it! I’ll have to do that next time!) but it just looked like crap. The good thing is doodles often become full-blown drawings given time to evolve, and this one will hopefully do that. There’s a lot to be done here before it matches what I see in my head, but it’s already making great progress. This one will probably require the most work of any of them, but I’m making progress. Today I worked on my Grandma, giving her body a more realistic shape. I also gave some sparkle to her and my Mom’s eyes, and added some detail lines to both of them. The next trip through I will work on myself, and do a few small details to the ones that are more finished. I still need to draw hands for my Mom, and the other people in this need a ton of work- clownish doesn’t even begin to describe how they look right now. This one received a lot of tiny details- lines showing the collarbone, wrinkles and strained areas on the dress, more detail to the pumpkin (which I am still not happy with). I added some shadows to the bricks to give them a little depth, and added a darker center to the fireplace’s insides. I also updated the text, using a font I believe is called Decayed for most of the text because fairy tales are never as happy as we want to believe they are. This one still has a long way to go, but it’s rapidly getting better. I fixed the ears, lowering them to align with the nose like they actually do on someone’s face, and fixed the arms, adding hands as well. The eyes were replaced with better models, and I fixed the sleeves and the neckline of the uniform top. I also changed the font of the speech text, though I forgot to change the bottom text as well. The urge to add wild colored wall paper is strong- after all, we never see the actual bathrooms in the Enterprise at any time. Just that little sink. I redid this one completely, in case you didn’t notice. I had to go out and find a photo of a firefly, and work form it, because I apparently can;t draw one on my own to save my life. The first version looked like glowing pencils, and the second version wasn’t much better. This one though… it’s much better. Still not perfect, but definitely a big improvement. This is going to be my last revision on this one. I re-drew the whisker dots on Pepe’s face so they were less square, and I shifted one flower upwards to make room for my revised text. Its not going to be my best out of all of them, but overall I am pretty happy with it. I used an image as reference for the first draft, but drew him entirely freehand. No tracing. |
