Hi guys! I just spent some time in my craft room (yes, my mom was so gracious as to let me have a craft room here!) culling beads to be donated that I will likely never use (about 4 pounds of them) which cleaned out several containers. Now to now rush out to find more beads to fill them up…. LOL. I also took the time to really look at my creations and take anything not quite perfect and pull it from my shop. A lot of this was stuff that I was still learning a new technique when I made them, or they were made with not quite the usual quality materials, or I just didn’t feel they were up to par. These have either been put into bags to be donated, or added to the small pile of designs I want to reclaim the components of to make other lovely creations. And when the weather cools off, I’ll be going through my knit and crochet creations the same way!Read the rest…

Saturday night I will be at the Antelope Valley Indian Museum selling my makes at the craft fair and chili cook-off. There will be a campfire, cowboy singer, chili cook-off, coffee, and cocoa! You can download the flyer for distribution and more details here, HotH Flyer 15. Chili, Crafters, and Cowboy Songs at “Holidays on the Homestead” Visit the Antelope Valley Indian Museum on Saturday, December 5th from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. for an old-time country Christmas celebration! Originally a 1930’s homestead, the historic grounds will be decorated in vintage holiday style with live acoustic music around a campfire, a chili cook-off, tours of the grounds, a country craft boutique, real cowboy coffee brewed over the fire, and hot chocolate or cider for the kids! Explore the unique hand-built museum and whimsical grounds at night with soft lighting and the smell of fresh greenery, and the wintery sky sparkling over the desert. Stay warm around the blazing bonfire while cowboy singer Michael Tcherkassky, “The Saddle Serenader”, croons the romantic poetry about life on the range that cattlemen composed by day during their journeys across the old west, and was then shared around the campfire when the sun went down. Michael has performed traditionalRead the rest…

I’ve been sick with a terrible cold the last few days, but when I heard the local Friends of the Library were holding a book sale at our local library, I ventured out not once but twice to see what I could find. I felt like death but still went to look for new craft books. New craft books created a big pull to get out. I was a little disappointed they only had 3 small boxes with craft and sewing books and magazines in them, but I managed to find these 7 to take home with me. And the best part is I paid an average of $0.40 a piece for them! They are all in pretty good condition, just some cover or dust jacket wear, and they all have some cool patterns in them. I also got two cook books and a Gnomes book for my friend Tracy who little did I know was actually looking for that book! The cook books are on chicken and making stews and soups, two things we enjoy, and the Gnomes book is an art book, which after flipping through it, is pretty amusing. I haven’t gotten much crafting done the lastRead the rest…

I still haven’t shared my recent additions to my crafting supplies, but I did want to share these. I love freshwater pearls in oddball shapes and sizes so much that I actually bought several strands of potato and peanut shaped ones in assorted colors, as well as a 1 pound bag of mixed colors and shapes. Now when you buy that 1 pound bag, you get a lot of really weird shapes. Some are more like slabs then rounded pearls, and some are doubled, or just oddly elongated. This lot of also dyed in about two dozen colors, which makes it even more interesting. I spent some time this afternoon moving all of my freshwater pearls into one bin, separating them roughly by color. As you can see, I got tons of the spruce blue/green color and they’re taking up two spaces. The three greens near each other, and the gold, orange, and white on the far right were all stranded and are roughly the same shape while the rest are really mixed. I still don’t know what I am going to do with all of these lovely pearls, but I’ll think of something! Pearls were almost all purchased fromRead the rest…

Just a quick blurb here tonight for you. I spent some time this morning taking photos of and adding some items to my shop I somehow missed adding before. I know you blog subscribers see my new posts, but I don’t think that new shop items are sent out in the same way. Pop on by the shop and have a look! I’ve added new knit and crochet, and new jewelry items with probably more to add over the weekend. I literally have so many items I sometimes miss adding a few. The newest items display first, so you don’t even have to go far to see them. Just click on Shop! I also got super lucky and the price dropped on the ukulele I wanted so I was able to order it! I’m so excited for it to arrive! Shipping estimates say about a week, but I’m super hopeful that it will arrive sooner. I can’t wait to start learning to play. I’m still hoping to make the sales I missed out on last Monday though and I have some other people very interested in some other items. Fingers crossed I make all the sales and then I canRead the rest…

I received an order yesterday for a pair of these so I spent the evening stitching them up. These and my girly skull earrings are my best sellers and I never remember to make an extra pair to have on hand. Doh! These shipped out this morning and hopefully make someone’s daughter very happy! I recently became enamored with the idea of learning to play the ukulele. Of course I need to get one before I can learn to play it, which means I need to make some sales. Money… There’s never enough of it! Last Monday I took some of my jewelry items with me to pool league and I sold 3 bracelets and would have sold two pairs of earrings but we missed each other in the way out. Hopefully she still wants them next week. If she does, that will put me at about the $50 mark plus some survey money I have coming in. I found one online I think I like for  about $100 but I also made the mistake of going into a music store and falling in love with a ridiculously beautiful one that is marked at $300. I really should stick with theRead the rest…

So, I’m having a great time using Alumilite Amazing Clear Cast Resin! I’ve been making resin earrings and its so much fun! These first two I posted yesterday before the findings were attached but these are better, clearer photos. I added Delica seed beads to each of these, setting some into them after the resin started to gel. This first pair has silvery beads in the front and behind those, black and white beads. I think these turned out pretty cute.   This pair I did a baby blue, bright pinkish purple, and white beads into. They are kind of 4th of July in feeling, though I’m a bit late for the holiday. These have a small tab at the top of the mold shape made to be drilled, so I got to see how good I am at putting holes in things. Apparently good enough because I drilled this pair and another not pictured without a problem. These ones I like even better than the other two. I sniped a few inches off of some of my silk sari yarn and I shredded it into little fuzzy bits, putting them into the molds before I poured the resin in. Most ofRead the rest…

I haven’t posted in a few weeks but I’ve been busy with my crochet, some knitting, and I started a new craft last night. Let’s start at the beginning though. Let’s start with my Mickey blanket which I was only able to finish with the help of a really nice fellow yarn crafter who mailed me a few yards of the orange yarn I needed to finish. I didn’t want to buy a whole new skein of yarn for just 8 or 10 yards worth that I needed. The #mickey #blanket is finally finished! My orange yarn fairy came thru and sent me just enough yarn to finish and my scraps were just enough to stitch the blocks together. I’m pretty sure I know where this one will end up too! #crochet #crafting #madebyme #redheart #yarn A photo posted by Debra Leigh Wilson (@kittyloafdesigns) on Jul 4, 2015 at 6:22pm PDT I’m still not 100% sure what I’ll be doing with the Mickey blanket, but I suspect I will be gifting it to someone in the future. After that, I started a new blanket, and while I’ve done quite a bit on it, I want to make it bit enoughRead the rest…

The last two days I’ve been playing with my polymer clay and I’ve made a few things. On Friday, I made a fish. Yes, a fish. I just kind of started squishing the clay around and let it form into whatever came to mind and this was it. I added a little detail post-bake by rubbing dark blue acrylic paint into the scratches where I drew a few scale shapes, gills, and nostrils, and wiped away the excess, leaving just enough of a stain on the other surfaces to give the idea of a slightly mottled color.   Unfortunately, I busted off one of his tail fins when I put him in the oven and didn’t realize it until after he came out so I had to glue it on later after I had glazed him and baked him again. Still, I think he’s adorable, and he’s not sitting on our TV stand, just under the edge of the TV. Saturday I used two of the tiny mirrors I bought and made these little garden looking glass earrings. I made the flower arrangements opposite of each other, and they turned out pretty well. I think the one on the rightRead the rest…

I’ve been trying to dedicate an hour a day to crafting the last few days and I feel like I am making progress. It should be easy to do something I love but sometimes it feels like work, you know? Anyway, in the last few days, I’ve completed several new quilt squares towards my quilt I may or may not ever finish, made some bracelets, crocheted a scarf, and added a bunch of new items to my shop. Not all of the items I added to the shop were created by me- there are two pairs of earrings that were created by another artist, and some yarn I won’t be using and would like to sell. I’m hoping to add more crafting supplies as time goes on and start to clear out my stash- as of right now I’ve got sewing patterns, some yarns, and some fabrics I’m not going to use any time soon. I figure if its been in my stash for years and its still untouched, I probably don’t need it. So, click on through to my shop, look around, and find something that strikes your fancy! I’ve got a big variety of products to chose from!Read the rest…
